Toilet Seat Covers for Personal Protection

Toilet seat covers is not what you think of everyday but it is a very common item in public restrooms and for obvious reason. We all want to be sure we are protected in every way possible from germs and the spread of diseases and the toilet seat covers is another tool that fits the bill.

Simply put, the toilet seat covers are pieces of paper designed to fit the toilet seat allowing the user to avoid contact with the surface of the seat itself. This adds an element of precaution and prevention in the spread of germs and disease. Many public facilities will have them hanging on the wall near the toilet and are easily dispensed. They are, of course disposable.

If you are looking for added protection when traveling when having to use a public restroom, toilet seat covers can be carried easily in the trunk of an auto, tucked into a suit case or folded and carried in a purse.

Order your toilet seat covers here.

Handwashing and Sanitizing

Handwashing is one of the most important things one can do to help prevent the spread of disease.

During the holidays, Rudolph isn't the only one with a red nose. Many ordinary people will be fighting off the cold and flu as the season progresses. To help prevent the spread of infections, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, handwashing is the single most effective way to prevent to do so.

There is a correct way to wash your hands. Putting them under warm running water and using soap is not all there is to handwashing. To be completely effective, a good lather should be worked up and your hands should be rubbed together for a minimum of 15 to 20 seconds.

If soap and water is not available, using an alcohol based sanitizer is an excellent substitute.

Do your part and help prevent the spread of infections by washing your hands.

Waterhog Mats For Maximum Dirt Removal

Did you know 75 to 80% of contaminates that enter a building come through entryways? A quality matting system stops these contaminates at the door. Stopping these contaminates not only reduces cleaning labor costs and reduces wear on floor surfaces but it also substantially reduces the need for cleaning chemicals that might be harmful to the building occupants and the environment.

Quality matting systems like the Waterhog construction pioneered by Andersen Mating provides the maximum performance for preventing soil and water from entering a building and therefore helping to keep a building “Green”. The BI-level construction that provides an upper surface for walking and a lower area where soil and water are stored until removed by cleaning accomplish this capability.

Waterhog mats utilize this permanent rubber reinforced BI-level construction, thereby, trapping large quantities of moisture and dirt, minimizing the effects of soil and water being tracked further into the facility. Low performance mats such as those with unsupported ribbed or square patterned face yarn will not hold up under foot pressure, thus allowing more water and dirt to reattach to shoes and be tracked into facilities.

A permanent BI-level construction extends the performance life of a mat reducing the need to dispose of mats frequently. Lower quality mats must be replaced 4 to 5 times more often than Waterhog mats contributing significantly more waste to our landfills. Another common problem with lower quality mats is the fact that users of these products do not always understand when the product has reached its useful life. In these cases the lower quality mat is left in place after it stops performing it function. Contaminates are then allowed to enter the facility with all of the ill effects outlined earlier. To learn more about the Waterhog mat, call us at 903-759-2796.

Cleaning Floors With a Microfiber Dust Mop

One great way to keep hard surface floors clean is to use a microfiber dust mop to keep the dust and dirt off the floor and out of the building. Microfiber is one of the best solutions for capturing more dust than traditional cotton dust mops.

A microfiber dust mop is the perfect tool for wood floors, tile, ceramic and other hard surface floors. Keeping the floors cleaned by using a microfiber dust mop will help insure the floor finish will last longer which saves money and time by reducing the number of times required to scrub or strip and wax. How frequently one should clean their floors is determined upon the amount of traffic entering the facility. For schools, hospitals and other high traffic, more than once per day will be necessary. For lower traffic facilities once per day would be sufficient.

Automatic Air Freshener

Easy Fresh is the only automatic air freshener that uses the fragranced cover of the dispenser cover as the refill itself. This unique concept makes changing the refill much easier since there is no locking cover to deal with. Automatic air freshener is not a new concept but with Easy Fresh, your life just became easier.

Each automatic air freshener cover is composed of unique material containing twice as much fragrance as most other air fresheners which is released over a period of thirty days. Easy Fresh refills are composed of 100% recyclable material and they are VOC compliant.

One huge advantage of the Easy Fresh automatic air freshener refill is the fact that it will continuously freshen for thirty days eliminating the peaks and valleys that the traditional fresheners offer. One other advantage is there is no spray or fall out with these automatic air fresheners.

The statement “batteries not included” does not apply with these devices as each automatic air freshener refill does come with a battery. When it is time to change the fragrance refill, you have everything you need in one package, including the battery.

These devices come with a fan unit which you mount on the wall, the automatic air freshener fragranced cover and a battery. Each time the refill is changed, a new battery is installed as well. This insures the fragrance is continuously supplied. They also come in several different fragrances the most popular being, honeysuckle, mango and spice apple. One good tip is to change the fragrance each time one is needed to be refilled insuring the notice ability of the fragrance.

Everyone wants their space to always have a fresh smell or fragrance that will have visitors making positive comments. Using the Easy Fresh automatic air fresheners and refills is one sure way to do this.

Indoor Air Quality Tools For Schools

EPA developed the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Tools for Schools Program to reduce exposures to indoor environmental contaminants in schools through the voluntary adoption of sound indoor air quality management practices.

The IAQ Tools for Schools Program is a comprehensive resource to help schools maintain a healthy environment in school buildings by identifying, correcting, and preventing IAQ problems. Poor indoor air quality can impact the comfort and health of students and staff, which, in turn, can affect concentration, attendance, and student performance. In addition, if schools fail to respond promptly to poor IAQ, students and staff are at an increased risk of short-term health problems, such as fatigue and nausea, as well as long-term problems like asthma.

How To Select A Carpet Spot Remover

I used a carpet spot remover but the stain didn't come out of my carpet. What do I need to do to get it all out?

We hear this often and normally the person trying to remove the spot did not select the right carpet spot remover. Most don't realize there are different classifications of spots and stains. There are two basic types, either alkaline or acidic with the most common being acid based.

First we need to understand the difference between a spot and a stain. The simplest answer is time. A spot simply has not dried and set in yet while a stain has had time to set into the fibers of the carpet. This is why it is always easier to remove a spot before it does become a stain.

With most soils being acid based you would need to use an alkaline based carpet spot remover. The reason is these are opposite and we all know opposites attract. So using the alkaline based chemicals they will attract the soils which are acid based.

This being said, the first product to try is an alkaline based carpet spot remover. Apply to the soiled area and let it dwell or sit for a few minutes in order for the chemical to start breaking down the soils. Next, blot with a clean white towel so that no colored die from the towel gets transfered to the carpet.

I suggest applying the carpet spot remover again and this time after a few minutes agitate the spot from the outside toward the center as not to spread the soiled area. Blot again.

This should take care of removing most spots and stains from your carpet. However, there are specialized carpet spot removers such as P.O.G (paint, oil, grease), ink removers, and even red dye removers that are designed for specific soils.

Hopefully you now have a better understanding of which carpet spot remover you should use.

Take a look at our list of carpet spot remover.

Advance Spectrum Commercial Vacuum Cleaner

When evaluating commercial vacuum cleaners before purchasing, many professional cleaners often look for equipment that operates a little faster, a little cheaper and easier to use. One other attribute that should always be considered as well, is the machines effectiveness and environmental performance.

When selecting a commercial vacuum cleaner, one thing to look for is one that is certified with the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Green Label. Selecting a vacuum with this rating can lead to simplified operation, improved cleaning speed as well as reduced labor costs. One that carries the CRI certification means it passed various tests, which verify its ability to remove soil, contain dust and retain quality carpet appearance. Many cleaning professionals are also finding that by choosing a CRI green-certified machine they are able to see a marked improvement in their cleaning productivity.

The Advance Spectrum vacuum cleaner is the perfect choice for cleaning professionals.

There Are More Mops Than You Know

So what's in a mop? Most people when asking for a mop simply have one type in mind and that is what we call the rotten cotton. However, there are actually many more mops to consider for the type of job you are doing.

Select your mops here: http://www.baxtersales.com/catalog/CatalogMain.aspx?ci=JMTMOP&cl=3

While the cotton mop is still a good all purpose mop, the blend mop is in many cases much better for general purpose mopping. This type mop is made from cotton fibers as well as a synthetic material.

Then ther is the rayon or nylon mop which is often times called a finish mop, a great choice for laying down floor finish. These mops leave less lint behind therefore allowing your floors to reflect maximum light.

And let's not forget the looped mop. This is an excellent choice for floors with more texture. They will last longer since the mop strings are not easily pulled out. And there are also mops with tailbands, blue mops, orange mops, saddle mops and screw type mops.

One other thing to think about too is the mop handle. Several choices here as well. So as you can see, there are more to mops than you know.

Take a look at our selection of mops on our online catalog: http://www.baxtersales.com/catalog/CatalogMain.aspx?ci=JMTMOP&cl=3

PS...There is also microfiber mops. More on this later.

Protection From MRSA Staph Infection

MRSA is a super bug that you don't want to mess with. It can be deadly. Prevention of MRSA starts with washing your hands and proper hygene. Disinfectants should be used when cleaning areas such as athletic mats, and equipment as well as shower areas. For a list of disinfectants you can search our online catalog at: http://www.baxtersales.com/catalog/CatalogMain.aspx?ci=JMTDSF&cl=3

Protection From MRSA Staph Infection
By: Ocha Nix

MRSA is a mutation of the staph infection, a bacterial infection, which can be a serious threat if it is not treated promptly and thoroughly. This is why it is important to be able to recognize MRSA symptoms. In the past, most MRSA cases were accounted for in hospital settings among people with weakened immune systems. Now, it has spread outside of hospitals and into locker rooms among young, healthy athletes. There are an increasing number of outbreaks that have occurred in various schools, and articles have been written concerning MRSA in magazines including Sports Illustrated and Men's Health.

What are some characteristics of MRSA symptoms?

Early symptoms of a staph infection may be a small, red bump resembling a bug bite or pimple on the body. Common areas where it may be found are in exposed areas such as arms and legs. It is also found in areas that sweat more including the underarm, buttocks, and groin. The pimple-like bump quickly becomes painful, red and enlarged. There can also be several in one area. This infection acts quickly, often causing flu-like symptoms such as fever and vomiting. It is a serious infection that can also be deadly.

These MRSA symptoms are right on as I can relate to the infection I had on my knee many years ago. It was amazing how fast this infection increased in size and yes, it is painful. Once in the hospital and treatment began, it took over a week for this staph infection to subside. Had I not recognized the symptoms, the outcome could have been much worse than a few days in the hospital.

How is MRSA contracted?

MRSA is transmitted from skin to skin contact among people with cuts and scrapes, but it can also be spread through contact with fitness equipment, dressing areas, wrestling mats, showers, restrooms, towels and clothing.

What can be done to kill MRSA?

Many commercial manufactures of disinfectants have products with MRSA kill claim as well as other antibiotic strains of Staphylococcus Aureus. Janitorial supply distributors carry many of these disinfectants which are known as quats or quaternary disinfectants. Proper cleaning procedures is critical in controlling this super bug. To help prevent it from spreading, know the MRSA symptoms. More About MRSA

I have worked in sales and sales management for over 27 years. I always try to provide my customers with information they can use. My personal experience with MRSA and being in the cleaning industry for the past 7 years has given me an insight into knowing and preventing MRSA.

Disinfectant Wipes Are More Popular Than Ever

Disinfectant wipes are more popular than ever and they are everywhere. One of the most popular places are in schools with little children. They are used to wipe their small hands, counters and tables as well as toys. Disinfectant wipes are a great way to control the spread of germs and the Lysol or Clorox wipes work great for this purpose. Read details.

This article is a great source for more information on disinfectant wipes.

Disinfectant Wipes

By Burt Schwartz

With rising concerns over bacteria, disinfectant wipes are now more popular than ever. You see individually wrapped hand wipes and antibacterial wipe dispensers literally wherever you go, and there are many uses for disinfectant wipes.

The bottom line, of course, is protection against harmful bacteria and germs that can transfer diseases (such as the swine flu) from person to person through high traffic areas or heavily used objects.

Search the Baxter Sales Online Catalog for Disinfecting Procucts

Commercial Use of Disinfectant Wipes

Large corporations typically offer disinfectant wipes in a dispenser, and in a number of locations throughout their businesses. Employees may be required to disinfect hands throughout the day. Cashiers, for example, handle a lot of money throughout the day. Money is a heavily used object that can transfer many harmful germs and bacteria. If employees are required to disinfect hands, then work productivity is increased by decreasing the number of sick days.

Aside from expressing concern over the health of employees, customers themselves should be offered disinfectant wipes to clean off shopping cart handles, hands, etc. While you can?t require customers to use disinfectant wipes, having them available does encourage the use of antibacterial wipes and this is a friendly gesture that will be remembered and builds customer loyalty.

Smaller Business Use of Disinfectant Wipes

You can find antibacterial wipes in the most unlikely of places these days. Naturally, a medical office would provide disinfecting wipes, but what about legal offices and other smaller places of business? Both employees and customers appreciate the benefits of protecting against harmful germs and bacteria? no matter where you go.

You will expect to see disinfectant wipes in a restaurant, a spa/salon, and a health and fitness center. But there are places that you would not expect to find hand wipes, and when you do find this is offered?. You will remember.

Other Uses for Disinfectant Wipes

Naturally, the most important places to offer antibacterial wipe dispensers are in any high traffic area. The top 3 locations that come to mind are (1) public restrooms, (2) airports and other public transportation areas and (3) gas stations.

Remember that everything you touch has already been handled. If you are in a high traffic area, or about to touch something that has been handled many times before you? you never know what germs and bacteria might lie on that object you are about to touch.

Germ phobia is spreading like crazy, and for good reason. There are more and more transferrable bacterial and viral diseases that can even be fatal, and all it takes to catch one is to touch your nose or mouth with your hand after touching a contaminated object or surface.

The most important use(s) for disinfectant wipes are to protect against such germs and bacteria by wiping off the hands and any surface -- before and after you touch it.

Disinfectant Wipes in the Home

Disinfectant wipes are available in smaller dispensers for home use, and are smarter for cleaning up spills and messes than using paper towels. For example, wiping up spilled milk with a paper towel or sponge does not disinfect against the bacteria that the milk leaves behind. If you plan on eating or cooking on that same counter? you might want to use an antibacterial wipe to be sure you and your family are kept healthy.

There are several types to choose from and one of the most common is the latex powder free gloves. These disposable gloves provide excellent protection from germs, disease and all the bugs the person doing the cleaning is trying to get rid of.

Most people using gloves will simply pull a pair out of the box and put them on without a thought. The way to do this is to blow air into the glove to determine if there are any holes.

Latex powder free gloves come packaged in boxes of 100 in small, medium, large and X-Large. Disposable gloves are also available in vinyl for those whom are allergic to latex.

Cleaning Carpet With The Advance Aquaclean 16ST

Restorative cleaning focuses on removing soil that can't be removed dry or with an interim method, which means you'll want a machine that provides superior cleaning performance. Because restorative cleaning is all about maximum soil removal, you'll want a machine that uses ample water — specifically, a self-contained extractor, like the Advance Aquaclean 16ST, that combines solution flow, pressure, agitation and recovery. Such an extractor allows the water to get deep enough into the carpet that it targets and removes the soil, but not so deep that it causes over-wetting that can substantially increase dry times. An extractor that relies on agitation is necessary to physically remove the soil without causing carpet damage, and recovery is necessary to remove the dirty water from the carpet. The Advance Aquaclean is one of the best carpet extractors in it's class. Easy to use and cleans carpt as good as anything on the market. Get the details

Urinal Blocks And Restroom Deodorizing

Urinal blocks or urinal cakes, as many call them, are small round blocks that look similar to a hockey puck, and lay in the bottom of a urinal to help control odors in restrooms.

Urinal blocks are air activated and are place above the drain in the urinal. When in contact with the air, they will dissolve providing the deodorizing properties controlling the odors. They do not dissolve in water and therefore they do not deodorize the flushing water or the urine.

The chemicals composing the urinal blocks will vary with the most common base chemical being Para dichlorobenzene, which is a paraffin, type chemical. However, this chemical has been recognized to have carcinogenic risks and now urinal blocks are available in a “free” version.

Each block is enhanced by saturating it with a scenting compound of fragrances such as cherry, which is the most common. A urinal cake comes in either 3 ounce or 4 ounce sizes, though other sizes are available. Each urinal block will last approximately 30 to 60 days.

The Odors: If you have ever walked into a restroom and the urine odor is so fowl that it will knock you down, then using urinal blocks will help control those odors. This is not to say that you do not have to clean the restroom. The cleaning process is to rid the area of germs and bacteria that will cause the odors in the first place. Once the restroom is cleaned placing urinal blocks in the urinals will do their job keeping the room filled with a pleasant fragrance. There are other deodorizing products that can also be used to help fight odors.

For a selection of urinal blocks and other deodorizing products, click here.

Hospital Grade Disinfectants

Disinfectants are antimicrobial agents that are applied to non-living objects to destroy micro-organisms, the process of which is known as disinfection. The choice of the disinfectant cleaners to be used depends on the particular situation. All disinfectants have a kill claim indicating the percentage of micro-organisms they will kill under specific lab conditions. Most disinfectants will have a 99.9% rating.

Some disinfectant cleaners as well as hospital grade disinfectants have a wide spectrum (kill nearly all microorganisms), while others kill a smaller range of disease-causing organisms but are preferred for other properties such as their cleaning ability. Most all of these products manufactured today will have both properties, disinfecting and cleaning. Therefore, depending on the exact application, one would have to choose which product would be the better choice.

Another factor that comes into play when choosing the right disinfectant cleaners is the dilution ratio. How much of the product to be used per gallon of water can make a difference in the end use cost. Some may dilute at 4 ounces per gallon while others may dilute at only 1 ounce per gallon of water. These may cost a bit more up front but usually they will cost less in the long run.

Levels of Disinfectants: Many of the disinfectants manufactured today are classified as hospital grade disinfectants but there are also other grades as well. So what are the different levels of disinfectants? There are 3 basic levels: Hospital Grade Disinfectant, General Disinfectants and Low Grade Disinfectants.
Hospital Grade Disinfectants.

General Disinfectants will have a kill claim with 400 ppm, while low grade disinfectants are less than 400 ppm.
